Dr. Kangaroo?

There was a great segment on Good Morning America about a kangaroo who is a therapy animal. Be sure to watch the video! (Go to http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/, on the right will be videos, click on Dr. Kangaroo? If it doesn't show, click on "More videos" and do a search.)

I'm sorry to say, we don't seem to have any materials on therapy animals! I'll have to see what's available and order something! We do have books on guide dogs and service animals such as monkeys and miniature horses! Here are just a few:

Haldane, Suzanne. Helping Hands: How Monkeys Assist People Who are Disabled. [J 362.4 HAL]

Hansen, Rosanna. Panda: A Guide Horse for Ann. [J 636.088 HAN]

Patent, Dorothy Hinshaw. The Right Dog for the Job: Ira's Path from Service Dog to Guide Dog. [J 362.4 PAT]

There are dogs who are trained to read with children in schools and libraries! These companion animals provide a patient listener for children who may have difficulty in reading. It's a wonderful idea, don't you think?
